Updating My Own Bathroom: A Personal Touch on a Functional Remodel
Sometimes, we update our own spaces, and this bathroom was no exception! Before I dove into kitchen and bath design professionally, I decided to add a soaking tub to my main bathroom—and I taught myself how to tile along the way. The before pictures show the mosaic tile I installed around the tub, one tiny 1” piece at a time, over 17 years ago.
A More Functional and Stylish Bathroom Design
The original bathroom wasn’t very functional, with a small 24” vanity that lacked storage. It was definitely time for an upgrade! I extended the vanity to add upper cabinets for much-needed storage and chose Cambria countertops for a sleek, durable finish. The new Waypoint cabinets feature a contemporary door style that gives the space a fresh, modern feel. I also swapped out the bulky tub for a freestanding soaking tub, creating a more open, airy space. To enhance the functionality and relaxation, I added a dual shower, giving this bathroom a true spa feel to it.
Personalizing the Space with Thoughtful Details
One of my favorite elements of this remodel is the custom pottery sink, which I had made to match the tile backsplash. It’s such a unique and personal touch. And to tie everything together, I chose hexagonal floor tile, which brings texture and character to the room, complementing both the modern and vintage elements of the design.
